What this is

What is menu intelligence?
Knowing what is actually on sale around you, and at what price. Not a survey or a panel estimate, but the dishes and prices establishments publish on their own menus, collected systematically and compared on a like-for-like basis.
What is restaurant pricing intelligence?
The same idea narrowed to money: the spread of prices for a comparable dish across a defined set of establishments, and how that spread moves over time. It answers "are we high or low here, and by how much" with evidence rather than impression.
How does DishMark monitor competitor menus and prices?
We maintain an index of UK food businesses and the menus they publish, refreshed on a background cadence. A report selects the establishments in your area, re-checks anything stale, and reports the distribution. The full method is published.
Where does the venue data come from?
The Food Standards Agency food hygiene rating register for completeness — it is the authoritative list of registered UK food businesses — and OpenStreetMap for the website a menu can actually be read from. Records are merged on name and proximity so one physical establishment appears once. OpenStreetMap data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence.
How is menu data collected — is it legal?
We read menus that establishments publish publicly for customers to read, which is what a customer does. We identify ourselves with a descriptive user agent, respect robots.txt including crawl-delay, rate-limit per host, and back off when asked. An establishment that excludes us is recorded as unavailable in the coverage funnel rather than worked around.

Coverage and accuracy

Do you guarantee every venue in an area?
No, and we will not pretend to. Some establishments have no website, some publish menus only as images, and some exclude us. Each report states how many establishments were discovered, how many were checked, how many had a readable menu, and names the reason for every one that dropped out.
Can I see how prices have moved over time?
Yes. Every report includes twelve-month series for the best-observed lines in your area. The figures are measured over a matched panel of establishments observed across the window, so the line reflects price movement rather than changes in which venues we were reading that month.
How often is the data updated?
Continuously in the background, prioritising areas under active monitoring. Weekly monitoring re-checks your area every week; monthly monitoring every month. Each figure in a report carries the date it was read, so freshness is never implied.
Does DishMark cover the whole UK?
England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are all selectable. See current coverage by nation.
Is a venue's disappearance a closure?
Not on our reports. A closure is only ever reported as "suspected", and only after repeated failed refreshes. A single failed check is recorded as missing data, and a dish missing from a failed refresh is never reported as withdrawn.
How are prices extracted?
In tiers. Where an establishment publishes structured menu markup we read it directly. Otherwise a deterministic parser reads name and price pairs from the page, tracking menu sections. Only pages that defeat both are transcribed by a language model, held to a lower confidence and the same plausibility checks. Nothing is inferred or rounded.

Using it

Can I benchmark my own menu prices?
Yes. Name the establishments you operate when you build a report and the “Your menu” section shows where each of your prices sits in the local distribution, which lines you are above or below the market on, and which widely-offered dishes you do not carry at all. Nothing needs uploading: if we can read your menu, we already have your prices. Your own sites are excluded from the market figures so you are not benchmarked against yourself.
Which dishes and cuisines are benchmarked?
A canonical taxonomy covering chip shop staples, burgers, pizza, pub classics, breakfast, coffee shop lines, Indian, Chinese and kebab shop staples, plus sides and drinks. You can also restrict a report to specific dishes, sections, ingredients, dietary claims or price bands.
Can I track specific competitors?
Yes. Set a price alert against a report profile and every establishment in it is watched. When one moves a price by more than your threshold you get an email with the before, the after and the menu line behind it, rather than waiting for the next scheduled report.
Can I compare pubs with restaurants and takeaways?
Yes, and the report breaks the same figures down by establishment type, ownership, location and cuisine, because a combined median usually hides the thing you need to see.
Do you infer allergens, popularity or sales?
No. We record dietary claims an establishment states on its own menu, and nothing more. Allergen information is the establishment's legal obligation and must come from them. We do not estimate popularity or sales — a dish on many menus is common, not necessarily popular.
Can I export the data into my own systems?
Every report exports as PDF, an Excel workbook, a CSV of the benchmark table, and audit JSON with every observation, its source URL, its timestamp and its evidence locator.
How does DishMark compare with foodservice market-intelligence providers?
Most sell panel data, surveys and modelled estimates across whole markets. DishMark reports observed menu prices in an area you define, with the evidence attached. It is narrower, more literal, and checkable.
Can food manufacturers and suppliers use DishMark?
Yes. The common use is watching how a product or category lands on menus: which dishes carry it, at what price, across which channels, and how that moves.

Accounts and billing

What are venue credits?
One credit covers one attempted establishment location in one report. Attempted is the billable unit: an establishment we check but whose menu we cannot read still consumed the work, and the coverage funnel reports it as such. Credits are £1.20 each, cheaper in volume.
What happens if I run out of credits?
Scheduled reports pause rather than silently shrinking your area, and you are told which report stopped and what it needs. You can top up, or reduce the allowance on the profile.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — one free month on sign-up with 150 venue credits and demo-mode reports. No card required.
How much does DishMark cost?
One-off reports from £99. Monthly monitoring from £599 a year, weekly from £1,499. Larger regional searches and custom multi-region builds are priced per establishment. See full pricing.
Can login, billing and report emails be different?
Yes. Your login address, the address invoices go to, and the addresses reports are delivered to are configured separately. Each report recipient gets their own revocable link.
Can I share a report with colleagues?
Yes. Add recipients to a report profile and each receives a secure link of their own. One-off reports are £10 per additional address, monthly £49 a year, weekly £99 a year.
Is the pricing final?
Prices are shown in pounds sterling. VAT or other applicable taxes are displayed before payment. Annual monitoring plans are paid up front for the twelve-month period.
